This is a program where we engage the entire family, and coordinate three programmes over a weekend. The child with a high medical needs is cared and supported for by paediatric nurses and skilled volunteers. Naturally, the child is accessible to parents and siblings over the weekend at any time. The siblings are accommodated in small groups within our A-frame cabins and are cared for by our volunteers. The parents are housed in our cabins giving them a complete chance to relax and recharge.
The children with high medical needs programme is limited according to their medical needs and individual capability.
Activities such as attending an animal petting zoo and engagement with therapy dog or horse are particularly popular.
The siblings have a fun-filled programme with exciting activities such as scavenger hunts, a jumping pillow, tennis, magic shows.
We coordinate offsite adventures including, treetops or beach excursions, motorbike sidecar rides.
The parents programme involves relaxation, and ‘parents only’ time including massages, lunch and dinner together with music, a few relaxing drinks, trivia, jukebox music for dancing.
A great benefit for the parents is the networking with other parents who have similar life experiences and understand their day-to-day responsibility.
This program encourages siblings to have fun in a safe and caring environment with the opportunity to meet and form lasting friendships with children with similar shared life experiences. This builds resilience and develops their social networks.
Camp Breakaway arranges a photographer to take lots of family photos which memorialise a great family portrait and a weekend.
