High Needs Sleepover Weekend

This program is coordinated for children who have physical or medical needs or conditions that prevent them from having a sleepover at a friend’s house.  It is conducted from 4pm Friday till 2pm on Sunday. They are given a fun filled weekend of activities including movie nights, kite making and flying, and our craft program. The magic show, junior disco and karaoke, and tandem motor bike rides are exceptionally popular.

We provide this program for high needs school children who miss out on this type of shared experience. This is also an opportunity for the parents and other siblings to have some much-needed respite and rejuvenation time with the other siblings or just some time out”” for the parents.

This program receives some government funding with the gap funded by a combination of grants, philanthropic funding and fund raising. Weekend care, particularly Sunday and public holiday personal care is, naturally, very expensive for complex medical cases so we try where possible to offset this by using experienced volunteers and nurses. This is sometimes not possible.  This program is in big demand and growing.
