This 3 days and 2-nights program is held during the high school holidays and is to provide an opportunity for teenagers to have fun in a safe and caring environment. The program is open to adolescent children living with autism aged from 12-18 years of age.
A programme is organised to provide a wide and varied range of age appropriate social and sporting activities that may be new or challenging. It encourages independence, confidence and promotes a sense of self-worth. They will meet other teenagers living with autism, mentors and professionals with similar life experiences and be given the opportunity to form lasting long term friendships with their peers.
The secondary feature of this program is to provide an opportunity for much needed respite to the other members of the family. The program is well organised and chaperoned by our experienced staff and volunteers, all of who have Working with Children and Police checks. This program receives some government funding with the gap funded by a combination of grants, philanthropic funding and fundraising.
Camp Breakaway is limited in the number of times it can offer this program through the year due to a gap between government funding and the cost to run a high-quality program.
